I am really tired tonight but I wanted to post an update about what is going on in my life.

long winded updateCollapse )

first week back: a success

Well, the first week back to school is over and my first two days at placement have come and gone. Monday and Tuesday I had class and Wednesday Thursday I had placement and then I had Friday off. The first day back was good, I was proud of myself for actually going. The weather outside was horrible and the entire ground was covered with a layer of ice. Luckily, the ice was kinda rough and it wasn't slippery. My classes were ok. Tuesday is the worst day; eight hours of class with only a one hour break. I've got all my groups in place which is nice. I am working with a lot of the same people I worked with last semester, which is nice, because I know we work well together.

Wednesday was my first day of placement. It was actually kinda boring. I don't think they were 100% ready for me, since it was their third day back from holidays. Anyway, I didn't do much, I worked on some attendance stuff, that's about it. Thursday was a better day. I was busy all day working on typing up some of their processes for certain tasks that are done in the office. I am hoping that next week I will get to start working on the hiring competition (which is the whole reason I accepted this placement). Two people from my program work in the same building, but for a different area, so I had lunch with them on Thursday and that was lovely.

Yesterday, Rob and I were both off (actually we are both off all weekend) so we just hung out. We went to the mall for a bit and I bought some new shoes and a new top. Today we have been hanging out inside because it is freezing outside. But we did go out briefly for some groceries and cat food. Tomorrow I foresee more inside hanging out and probably going out for breakfast. I love weekends...

Ok, I figured I should post a real update, since my holidays are almost over and I haven't written a real entry in weeks.

So I go back to school on Monday and I am nervous/excited about it. First, I have an intense schedule on Mondays and Tuesdays, class almost all day from 8:30-5:30. Then, I have placement on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8:30-4:00. I can just tell that by the end of Thursday I will be dead tired. Anyway, I don't have class on Friday but I just know that everyone in my class is going to be scheduling group meetings for that day, since we all have it off. Regardless of the fact that my new schedule looks daunting, I am excited to tackle this new challenge. I am excited because there are only 4 months left of school and then I get to job hunt and dive into the working world.

It felt like the longest wait between my last exam and Christmas, but Christmas finally came and I had a great time. I went to my parents' house for the 23rd, 24th, and 25th then on the 25th we went to my grandparents' house for Christmas dinner. Rob had to work the night of the 24th, so he didn't get to go to my parents but he did join us for dinner. I got some great gifts, including a homemade ottoman cover from my mom, a pasta pot from my parents that has a colander and veggie steamer, a cotton robe (which I had been looking for forever!), and money for work clothes. In the Boxing Day sales, I bought a blazer, a vest, and dress pants for under $80. I saved like $100 on the three pieces, so that was a score.

Christmas Pics!Collapse )

On the 27th, I went to my mom's family Christmas. Almost everyone was there, except my grandparents (who are in Florida for the winter) and Rob (Who had to work).  It was great. We played this awesome new Wii game called Outdoor Challenge. It has all these active challenges that you complete on a mat. I am thinking I might want to buy that game, it was so challengiing, but also fun. Except, I think it is a versus game, so I would have to get Rob to play against me. The fun started to go downhill on the 28th, when it seemed like one thing after another went wrong. My dad got a stomach flu, the power went out, my aunt slipped on an icy patch and hurt her back/neck, my uncle chipped his tooth.... Anyway, we were desperate to get out of there on the 28th and get back home before things got any worse.

I rang in the New Year with Tara. It was a quiet night, but there were some laughs. We played Trivial Pursuit and watched the ball drop on Dick Clark's Rockin Eve (Dick Clark is looking kinda scary after his stroke and I am not sure it was necessary for him to continue his hosting duties...). We watched Mamma Mia, that is a really great movie. It was so funny and up beat. I hope that is a preview of 2009.

Yesterday, I was invited to a Chinese food buffet with my grandparents and aunt and uncle. I went and we ate dinner at 4. After I got home, my whole evening was messed up. I kept thinking it was like 9pm, but really it was only 6. lol. But, after dinner I enjoyed a quick cuddle on the couch with Rob before he had to leave for work. We we watching the hockey game and he was asking me trivia questions from his new trivia book. It was lovely.

Right now, I am feeling pleased with myself because I have done some work around the apartment today, including "installing" some lights in my dark hall closet. That is where we keep most of our cleaning supplies and it was always so dark in there, so I bought those touch lights that just stick on the wall and now it is super bright in there. Yay! I also finally bought new light bulbs for our hallway light. That bulb has been burnt out for MONTHS, so I am happy to finally have a new bulb in there. New year, new bulbs!

Anyway, I believe that is the complete update! I will let y'all know how the first week back goes.

Writer's Block: Under the Same Sign

Today is chockfull of celebrity birthdays—Brad Pitt, Keith Richards, Christina Aguilera, and more. What celebrities do you share your birthday with? Do you find any similarities between you and those who share your birthday?
I share my birthday with Matthew McConaughey, P.Diddy (or whatever he calls himself these days...)  those are the two that I can remember and I don't think that those two guys and I are very similar. They both seem to be party animals at times, and I am definitely a homebody. Oh, I just looked it up and apparently, Jeff Probst was also born on the same day as me. He and I might be more similar than Matthew or P. Diddy.

Writer's Block: Quarantine Etiquette

The holiday season happens to overlap with cold and flu season (and not just the bottle flu). When you get sick, do you go to work or school anyway, or do you stay home to avoid spreading your germs?
I hate being sick and I am such a suck that I prefer to just stay inside and stay in bed when I am sick... so I would say that I stay home. However, I don't stay home to avoid spreading germs. I have never even considered that, actually. lol. Does that make me a horrible person?

Writer's Block: Coast Range

If you had to choose, would you rather live in the mountains or by the ocean?
For sure, I would rather live by the ocean. I think that would be lovely. I HATE winter and I would love to live in a warm climate all year long.

Writer's Block: Traditional Pursuits

There are a lot of things we see most often in December, like caroling, potato latkes, mistletoe, mulled wine, eggnog, and returning gifts. What's your favorite holiday tradition?
I don't know that it is a tradition, per se, but every December, for quite a few years, my family and I have watched Christmas Vacation. Each year we watch it, we laugh our asses off. We still find it funny, even though we can still pretty much quote the whole movie.

Another tradition that got started by my mom's parents is each Christmas Eve we (the kids) get to open one present. It is always predetermined by the parents and it is always pajamas. The opening of PJs on Christmas Eve is definitely a tradition I will carry on with my kids, despite the fact that I live with my very own Grinch. :P

Update!

I know that I have been gone for like, ever. I have been so busy with school these past few weeks that I haven't had time for LJ. But I have been browsing my friends page religiously.

So, things have been pretty good with me and with the boy. We have experienced lots of changes though. For example, Rob has a new job working with a hotel in Kingston. He just started working there this week and so far he seems to enjoy it. Although, he comes home very tired at the end of the day. Also, I quit my job last week because it was too much to balance all my group meetings, class, homework, life, and work. So, right now we are struggling a bit financially, but I know that everything will work out for the best.

Last week was my birthday. On Sunday, the 2nd, my parents came over and we had a lovely birthday dinner at Red Lobster and dessert at the apartment with present opening. I got a great three-piece suitcase set from my parents and lots of spending cash and gift cards.

On my actual birthday, I ended up working in the morning and going to class in the afternoon. When I got home Rob was all set to make dinner for the both of us. He made a lovely dinner of Salmon with lemon sauce, rice in a cream of asparagus soup, and asparagus. We also had a few glasses of wine and some of the leftover cheesecake.

Last night, we went to a student recognition dinner at school. It was to hand out awards to students. I got the Dean's List, Business award for having the highest average in the common business program. I got a framed certificate and a free dinner for my efforts.

I am also looking forward to the Great Big Sea concert that I am going to on Monday. My friend bought me my ticket for my birthday present and I am excited to see my favourite band with my favourite people! I am hoping to have pics of the concert as well. :)

Back in September, I went on the girl's weekend with the ladies in my family and it was a blast. We went to Niagara-on-the-Lake and sampled a lot of yummy wine and ate a lot of yummy food.

Well, I believe that is all for now!
